Xanthoma is a medical term that refers to a benign (non-cancerous) elevation of the skin that is caused by the accumulation of yellowish cholesterol deposits. It can appear as small, soft bumps on the skin, usually on the hands, feet, eyelids, or scalp, and can sometimes occur in the deeper layers of the skin.
