stomatodaeums Definition

A term used in evolutionary biology to denote the group of animals that includes chordates with a pharyngeal slat apparatus, which are thought to be early stages in the development of the vertebrate head. It was introduced by Stephen Jay Gould in his theory of evolutionary faunas and is used to describe a particular assemblage of organisms.
