leviratical Definition

Relating to, or in the nature of, levirate marriage; also, like, or pertaining to, the Levites. In biblical times, leviratical marriage referred to a custom where a man had the duty to marry his brother's unmarried widow if the brother died childless. This was practiced in ancient Hebrew culture to continue the lineage and inheritance.
