A rare inflammatory condition involving the cartilage structures of the ear, particularly the malleus and incus bones. It is characterized by pain, swelling, and sometimes discharge from the external auditory canal. The term is sometimes used in a broader sense to describe inflammation of the ear's cartilage structures, such as the auricle (heliosis).
