iapygian Definition

Relating to or denoting the people of ancient Iapygia in southern Italy, or the region itself. Iapygia was a tribe of ancient Italy that inhabited the heel of the Italian boot, roughly corresponding to the modern region of Apulia. The term is also used to describe certain cultural, linguistic, or geographical aspects specific to this area.
