Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are a group of chemical compounds used primarily as refrigerants and propellants. They are alternatives to chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) which were phased out due to their ozone-depleting properties. Despite being less harmful to the ozone layer, HFCs are potent greenhouse gases contributing significantly to global warming.
