hippoglossus Definition

The genus Hippoglossus is a group of large marine food fish of the flatfish family (Pleuronectidae). They have a convex upper surface, both eyes usually on the right side, and a slender pointed snout. The largest and best-known member is the Atlantic or common sole (Hippoglossus hippoglossus), which is valued for its firm, white flesh.
