bicommutant Definition

In mathematics, particularly in the field of operator algebras, the bicommutant of a subalgebra A of a von Neumann algebra M is the smallest von Neumann algebra in M containing A and closed under taking commutants twice. It is also known as the double commutant of A. The concept is important in von Neumann algebra theory and Quantum Mechanics.
