Ventifact Definition

A ventifact is a rock with a polished and sometimes etched surface resulting from a strong, persistent wind erosion, often with symmetry and other characteristic shapes, caused by the drilling action of fine, abrasive particles. Ventifacts are typically found in desert environments and are considered extreme examples of aeolian (wind-borne) or abrading erosion.
