Phocidae Definition

Phocidae is a family of pinnipeds, a group comprising the true seals, which are characterized by being able to move on land only by pressing their body weight onto their pelvic girdles and dragging themselves forward with their flippers. They have no visible external ear flaps and nurse their young by sucking milk from mammary glands that secrete a high-fat content milk.
