Definition

A genus of nematode (roundworm) parasites that can cause lung inflammation in various animals. These parasites primarily affect the lungs of ruminants, such as sheep, goats, and deer, but can also infect other species including humans, albeit rarely. Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, and bronchitis. Diagnosis is often made through the detection of worm eggs in the animal’s feces or secretions from the respiratory tract.
