Enterococcus Definition

A genus of Gram-positive, catalase-negative, nonspore-forming, facultative anaerobic or microaerophilic bacteria. The bacteria are well known for being opportunistic pathogens, especially in the urinary and gastrointestinal tract of humans, and they are also used in water quality monitoring and food safety testing.
